Teacher Layoffs

When first hearing about the new trend of charging for school transportation a couple years ago, the first thought it was that it was an expensive town that this was occurring in. However, this new trend of fees for transportation comes from towns of varying statuses of wealth and appearance.
Of course many other scenarios are to blame: the gas prices were less than favorable and perhaps the town itself had debts to pay off. In comparison to the towns around me, only a couple enforces such new regulations. Unfortunately, this only seems to be growing into a more popular income for schools and towns and this is a new trend that will not be going away anytime soon.
The reasoning behind the growing use of charged transportation appeared to be based on the rise in gas prices, but since the gas prices vary this is not a reliable excuse. A more likely reason can be the budget deficient that towns themselves are facing during this time and because of this, the schools are attempting to make up for their losses.
Evidently, schools are spending more money than it is given by the state. Therefore, charging families for student transportation is one of many ways which would have helped to close the budget gap. The schools themselves are not just charging students because of higher gas prices, but because the schools are attempting to cover the various overage charges that had occurred due to the lack of a sustainable budget.
While some citizens may criticize the act to charge for school busing, I think this is the most reasonable way to avoid negatively affecting a child’s education. The school needs to find a source of revenue to make up for lost money, instead of laying-off valuable teachers.
The reasoning behind charging for resources such as busing or sports in schools would be to lessen the amount of layoffs. This would not completely solve the problem because there will continue to be instances where these layoffs will be necessary. With money coming from buses and not layoffs, the children’s classroom will not be affected negatively. This way the children’s education will not be changed due to reasons concerning funds
By charging for busing, there will be more teachers and therefore, a better classroom environment. How can students live up to their full potential with a classroom that does not do the same?
