Library

Framingham State University wants to be an “up-to-date” school yet when you step in the library you feel like you’re stepping back into the 1970s. They are trying to fix it up a little bit but they still have a lot of work to do. The first thing they should do is cover up all of the concrete and update all of the restrooms. The restrooms are old and need to be updated to automatic flushing and automatic faucets. The computers are slow as hell and the seats on the upper mezzanine are hard as a rock and extremely uncomfortable. It’s unlike any library I have been in; usually they have comfortable chairs and couches. At FSU you’re sitting on a wooden chair. The chairs in the general area as well as the classrooms look and feel as if they have been there since before I was born. One level of the library is extremely hot while another level is freezing, it’s been there forever, they should have figured out temperature control by now. If you want a drink or a little snack, chances are the little coffee shop is going to be closed. If it is closed, you have to go downstairs to get a drink or snack from a small selection.

It is time for an update library, update the seats and tables and lastly make it more convenient to grab a drink and something to eat.

  1. The library at Framingham State needs to figure somthing out! I have a class downstairs in LM and all I hear in class is drills and saws going on and off. How am I supposed to concentrate when these noises are going on all class? Why did Framingham decide to build the new snack bar during first semester and not during the summertime when there is alot fewer students around? As far as the rest of the library goes, I agree with Bottoms Up. The chairs are old, parts of the building are hotter than hell, where other parts like down on ground level is freezing cold. How about that elevator in the library. Any day now, that thing is going to snap and someone is going to be in trouble. I do not feel safe in that elevator. The library needs some serious renovations during the summer time. I would use the library alot more if it was more comfortable.

  2. I agree with bmw, the library is nothing short of uninviting. When I find out that I will need to go to the library I do everything possible to avoid going. The discovery of google books has been my savior from the library this semester. I feel as if the library had some sort of aesthetic appeal students would be more willing to frequent the library.
