Thinking of buying that nice winter jacket you see at Macys or Burlington Coat Factory? You know…the black one with that faux firm trimmed collar? Well this year you better do a bit more research on the coat you plan on purchasing.
Turns out stores across the country that believe they are selling jackets with the fake fur around the hood, are now caught in a dilemma because after much investigation, many of these brand name garments have been found to have real fur on them! This is shocking news to people like me and maybe you, who own jackets with this faux fur trim. I am very much an animal lover, not as drastic to the point where I wouldn’t eat meat, but I can surely say walking around with the fur from a once live animal would make me extremely uncomfortable, and I would never chose to do that. The fact that alarms me is there are many other people that opt out of real fur for this same reason, yet when they purchase a jacket this year that clearly states it contains no real animal fur on the label, they could still be getting it without any knowledge.
Inside Edition decided to take it upon themselves to do some investigating and actually visited a Burlington Coat Factory to take a look at some of the product on the selling floor. They found an Ed Hardy jacket with faux fur, after double checking with the sales clerk, she informed them it was surely fake fur around the hood. Come to find out, the woman was highly misinformed herself, the so called “faux fur,” was real and came from an animal called an Asiatic raccoon, also known as a raccoon dog. Ew!
This is horrifying, how could a widely popular store such as Burlington Coat Factory, make the mistake of not knowing their products enough to decipher between real and fake fur. Their job is solely based on the sales of jackets, shouldn’t there be a head of the company somewhere in at least one of their stores nationwide who has enough knowledge of the product to know that there is something wrong with the shipment they ordered from the designer. The jackets should never have even reached store floors.
So before you purchase an item this season that has any type of faux fur on it, do some research, or else you may be wearing the fur from a raccoon dog and not even know it!
