Do the Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots or even Bruins care if the average person can afford tickets to the games? All the sporting events are selling out but are the true fans able to attend? The higher the price of the ticket the more they are pulling in less of a fan and just someone who can afford it. For example I was at the Celtics game a few weeks ago and a husband and wife happened to be sitting next to me. I started talking and said, oh have you guys ever been to a Celtics game before. She said “no, the only player I know is Shaq, but we couldn’t pass up such good seats.” Unfortunately this is a perfect example as to how they aren’t bringing in their core fans. Maybe if they didn’t pay the players so much money, ticket prices wouldn’t be so high and the average fan would be able to attend.
Concerts are the same way. I really enjoy going to outdoor concerts during the summer months. After a few however, they tend to get rather expensive. For example, I am a huge Tom Petty fan and went to three of his shows this summer. At roughly $125.00 a ticket, in addition to the $40.00 to join the fan club so I was able to get such good seats I nearly had to sell an arm and leg to afford them. After you pay all of this money they only play for roughly 1:45 min. According to Rolling Stone magazine, Petty made $44 million in just four months. So are they doing this for the money or are they doing this because they like what they are doing and they want to entertain their fans? Maybe they are doing it for a little of everything but if they are like majority of others, money always prevails…
Whatever the reasons ticket prices are so high they should really reconsider and think of their core fan base as well as families. Not everyone can afford these events and it isn’t fair. Until people stop going to the games, expect ticket prices to increase or remain the same and if you are that average person who can’t afford to go to many of the games, grab a drink and watch it at home with the rest of us…
Ticket prices have become insane. Not only ticket prices, but how about the food and drinks as well? Take for example Fenway Park where the Red Sox play. A beer costs $7.75 and a hot dog $5.00. I agree with Bottoms-Up in how athletes are being paid too much and we as fans have to feel the effect of the costs. I love going to games around Boston, but the prices are getting ridiculous. The New York Yankees new stadium tops all ticket prices. To sit right behind home plate, per seat, a fan pays $2600. That is insane!!! I feel bad for large families. Imagine how much a family of 4 or 5 pays to go to these games. The tickets, the food, and oh ya dont forget parking! Its robbery just to go see your favorite team play! Ticket prices need to come way down before I start going to games
ReplyDeleteUntil people like you stop transferring $405 from your bank account to his, Tom Petty will keep right on charging high prices. In economic terms, it's called "Supply and Demand."
ReplyDeleteDid you know that there are local venues where you can be entertained much more cheaply? Uncommon Coffeehouse, Amazing Things Art Center, Natick Center for the Arts...
