Finally, a Rape Video Game

Video games have, for a long time, been under fire for causing such things as use of foul language in children, increased desire for violence, and causing kids to commit other crimes. Still the games that cause the trouble are very popular; and quite fun. What’s better on a Sunday afternoon than running over twelve innocent citizens on a beach in your stolen pickup truck? Grand Theft Auto and other similar style games have made Rockstar Games one of the top publishers in the video game world.

These games are so popular because they give people a break from everyday life. Some mindless killing mixed with a decent plot is good enough to attract people to the game. There are however some people, usually children, that see games like this for more than they are. They might not start running down the street with a fully automatic weapon shooting everyone they see, but the game does influence younger players. The question is however, when does a game go too far? Are there certain crimes that are too sensitive to form a game around?

Japanese video games have always been in a different category of repulsive context. They have mostly been criticized for their sexual content in their games. Also, there has always been a hint to raping women in the games. A lot of games have a few instances when the player has to forcefully have sex with a woman. This was never made it a major part of the game, until about three years ago.

The game is called “Rapelay,” and has had moderate success in Japan. This game gives the player full control of raping women. From threatening murder, to choosing whether or not to get her pregnant and, in the event of the latter, whether or not she gets an abortion. The game frankly goes way too far. For most people, any hint of rape in a video game will make them think twice about the game. This game is built around it. The plot of the game is essentially raping way through three women in a family. The player can choose how to touch the women, and there is even a pleasure meter on the screen to see if they truly hate it.

The game is as graphic as it is intricate. The second and third girls you rape in the family are both virgins and to keep the game realistic, they include a “Crimson surprise all over you and them,” as the author of a review of the game so eloquently puts it on http://www.somethingawful.com/d/hentai-game-reviews/rapelay.php. The third girl is exactly that, a girl. She looks about ten years old and her room is filled with stuffed animals and teddy bears. She cries the entire time and you can even zoom in on her face as you rape her. There are also things to unlock throughout the game, to make the raping more necessary. The author of the review couldn’t have said it better, “It's sort of like Tony Hawk, only instead of a 720 kickflip off a statue, you have to make Aoi swallow semen three times or make Yuuko spread her ass cheeks.”

It is quite obvious that this game goes way too far, and I am surprised that it is even real. Most people could never imagine that there would be a game completely dedicated to graphically raping women. This is so horribly insensitive to all rape victims. The game makes San Andreas seem like it should be rated E. At least in that game when the car was rocking it was consensual. Choosing between running someone over or drive-by shooting them seems like an innocent one when compared to picking the sexual position in which to rape a child.

  1. I was completely shocked by this - I can't believe any game is allowed on the market which makes a game out of rape. Not only is it offensive to women and rape victims, but also, their families as well. It should be offensive to everyone. The fact that people purchase the game is sad in itself. I wonder what the rating is and besides that, do ratings even matter? Whether you have to be 17 to purchase it or not, it still encourages its users to rape even in a game sense. How long until someone desides to turn that game into a reality? Creators of games should think of that before they come out with such offensive games.
