The War Sub-Culture

I couldn’t tell you the difference between Iraq and Iran and I’ll be the first to admit I’m not all that politically savvy. But I do know of the wars exploding overseas. I know the heartache of shipping off someone you love to certain death. I know the perils in Iraq equal those in Afghanistan even though some will try to convince me one is easier than the other. (Those people can go get shot at for a year, or send someone they love over into hell and then they can tell me it’s easier) What I don’t understand is how some people have just stopped caring.

Maybe I’m more familiar with the circumstances because I have sent more than one man in my life overseas and more than one did not come home. But they are fighting for your freedom too. They’re putting their lives on the line so you may walk about with your liberty intact. My guess is, you only think about the wars when the news deems it necessary. This pointless, death ridden missions plague my every waking thought so I find it inconceivable that some cannot appreciate the sacrifices being made for them.

While nothing can compare to the sacrifice being made by the soldiers, their family and friends being left behind also bare a heavy load. Parting from the one they love, uncertain of his mortality day to day make these people a sub culture of the American people. It seems we who have the world to lose, are the only ones concerned about the ongoing wars. But you’ve got quite a bit at stake as well. I’m not asking for much, just acknowledge those heroes that risk their lives to keep you safe.
