A Good Citizen

69 years ago today Japan attacked the United States. Pearl Harbor, the location where battleships lined the island as far as the eye could see was struck by Japanese bombs and kamikaze pilots damaging or destroying many of the Pacific fleet. Japan nearly killed 2,400 Americans in the surprise attack, some of which remained trapped inside the USS Arizona.

The day after, Franklin D. Roosevelt declared Dec. 7th “A date which will live in infamy”. This attack prompted the United States to go to war with Japan and then to war with Germany. Millions of Americans served in this war in some way or another and nearly 300,000 gave their lives for our country. Whether it is the war we are fighting today or the war we fought 69 years ago we should take a minute and remember the men and women in the Armed Forces fighting for our safety as well as our freedom.
