Crime in a Technological World

There is a local Citgo gas station that always has the lowest gas prices and I always fuel up there. I learned that this specific gas station was actually robbed by a seventeen year old boy during this weekend. According to the story, the worker of the gas station was restacking cigarettes and when he turned around, there was a gun in his face.

Of course, this story ends with the seventeen year old getting the money out of the register and then driving away. However, the official end of the story is that he made it home only to be soon greeted with police officers at his door.

In this age of technology around every corner, there is no possible reason that a person would get away with these actions without being apprehended. Specific to this robbery, the attendant of the gas station and other witnesses had noticed the make of the car, had partial license plate number and also noted the boy’s appearance. Along with this, proof of the robbery was caught on video tape. Of course, the fact that the boy had driven his own registered car inevitably leads to his name and current address. Not to mention the gun’s registration to the teen as well.

The purpose behind this is to show that the old school style of robbing by gun point is not an illegal action that will go unnoticed by any means. With the technology to record actions and to trace any registered item directly to an individual shows that these crimes are illogical.

The seventeen year old boy that committed this crime was charged with armed and masked robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm in felony, unlawful carrying or possession of a non-large capacity firearm, rifle or shotgun, and larceny. Not only are these long list of charges going to follow him for the rest of his life, but his robbery had only given him under 250 dollars.

Not exactly worth it in the long run.
