Celebs are not and should not be above the law

It seems like every few days, there’s a new celebrity in the news who’s either going to, coming out of, or is in jail. I guess it’s a big deal when celebs are arrested, but why do they get off so easily so often?

Let’s travel back in time to the O.J. Simpson fiasco of the mid-90s. Two people were stabbed to death and O.J. was arrested, tried and set free. His blood was found at the crime scene. (Blood dropped at the crime scene was the same type as O.J.’s and only 0.5% of the population would match that.) And both victims’ blood was found in the infamous white bronco. If that’s not damning evidence, I don’t know what is. But Johnny Cochran claimed everything was planted by shady cops and apparently this was enough for the jury to have reasonable doubt. If what Johnny said was true, that was a whole lot of coordination on the cops’ part to plant so much evidence in so many different places. Unbelievably, O.J. was found not guilty. Luckily for all of society, O.J. was arrested in 2007 for armed robbery and is facing a three to 35 year sentence. That’s not exactly a life-term sentence, but it’s good enough for now I suppose.

(Did I mention O.J. all but confessed in his book? “If I Did It: Confessions of a Killer” is a “hypothetical” account of how he would have killed the two victims. And yet, he’s still not serving time for that crime.)

After his 2007 arrest, the father of Ron Goldman, the male victim of the double murder, said he believed O.J. to think he is "above the law." It seems as though that’s a growing trend in Hollywood.

A few months ago, I was watching MTV’s newest creation “The Seven” (which brings the audience up-to-date on the seven important celeb stories of the day). One of the hosts had spoken to Lil Wayne on the phone and the interview was brief, but I believe it shouldn’t have happened at all. Lil Wayne is currently in jail! He shouldn’t be getting special treatment like talking on the phone on live, national television. Nobody else in jail gets that luxury. And then he was called up again to speak live with Drake.

What’s the deal? Celebrities shouldn’t be treated like royalty just because they’re famous. So he’s sold a couple million albums and has more money than anyone of us could ever picture in our minds, who cares? If you’re in jail, you should be treated like you’re in jail - not like you’re on some vacation.

Lindsay Lohan is another train wreck celeb who continuously seems to think she doesn’t have to obey the law. Drugs and alcohol aren’t going to get you anywhere in life, Linds, except maybe the slammer - unless you manage to swindle your way out of that again.

Recently, Paris Hilton (who has done nothing to earn celeb status in my opinion) was arrested and tried to convince cops during her arrest that she thought the cocaine she was carrying was gum. She later admitted to lying to cops in her trial, but still, it’s a tad ridiculous.

Even more absurd than Paris was T.I.’s huge mistake. Newsflash: if you have several machine guns with you at an airport, nothing good will come of it.

And there are countless other celebrities who think they’re above the law, so when they’re arrested, they’re just totally stunned. None of them should ever be considered above the law and should be treated just as any other human who gets arrested.

  1. I agree with you BamBam, celebrities get away with so much now a day it's really sickening. I'm sorry, but why are men like Charlie Sheen not in jail? He has been arrested countless times for spousal abuse and drug possesion and useage but he always seems to pay his way out of it. Another annoying thing is when celebrities get to leave their sentence early because of their, "good behavior." That is a whole lot of crap, how many non-celebrities in jail get this reward? I would really love to know.
