There are many complaints students have about the dorms at FSU. They are too hot, the rooms are small, and the sign in process is tedious. The main complaint that can be fixed quite easily is the bathroom situation. Most students complain heavily about bathroom related issues. There are three main complaints about the bathrooms in the dorms. The first one deals with the toilet paper. The toilet paper is abrasive at best. It is rough and thin, and is very uncomfortable to wipe with. This prompted the comedian who performed last year to make a joke about the quality of the toilet paper. It may be the most expensive change needed in the bathrooms, but it still needs reform. The second complaint is that there are no paper towels. The cleaning people put them in maybe once a month. One resident sees this and snatches them every time for their room. This is frustrating, and makes residents walk all the way back to their room with a wet face or hands. The third complaint is the fact that there is no soap in the bathroom. This simply does not make any sense. What makes even less sense is the fact that there are hand sanitizer dispensers. These kill germs, but most of the time I am more comfortable washing my hands.
These complaints seem to be easily fixable. They may cost more money, but we pay room and board at a state funded university. They are building new dorms, and some Charmin Ultra doesn’t seem like too much to ask for. The issue of paper towels could be fixed by adding a dispenser. Much less people (if anyone) are going to crack open the dispenser and take the roll. This would be cost-effective and would be much appreciated by the residents. The soap issue can be solved by simply buying soap instead of Purell. It must cost the same amount if not less. This is the issue that makes the least sense. They tell us to wash our hands all of the time to avoid illness, yet they do not give us the materials. Hopefully these conditions will change in the near future, but I do not have high hopes.
I agree! I've lived in a different dorm each of the four years here at Framingham State and every year I have the same problems. So finally, I've resorted to buying my own soap and paper towels. I leave them in my room so they last as long as possible. It's ridiculous that I'm paying extra money for hygiene even though I pay a ton for room and board. This change really needs to happen for future resident students.
