Airport Security: How Much is TOO Much?

Have you ever gotten annoyed when you had to be patted down or searched at airport security? Well, one woman's protest of the invasive TSA pat-downs got a lot of heads turning. New stories report that Tammy Banovac, a 52 year old woman from Oklahoma who uses a wheelchair, entered an aiport with a trench coat, which revealed only a bra and panties underneath when she entered the airport security screening. She did this to protest the invasive searches that she has experienced in the past that she claims would be sexual assault if conducted elsewhere.

Airport security being accused of procedures sexual assault-like? Yes, we need to screen at airports to protect the safety of all passengers, but how much is too much? When women feel that they are being sexually violated, and feel uncomfortable to go through airport security because of this, I think we have gone a little too far.

Another issue is who is searched typically at airports. They say that they choose random passengers for more thorough searches, but is this method actually useful? A woman in a wheelchair getting the extra pat-down. My 21 year old sister, getting randomly chosen for the same thing. I think that we should be patting down those people who look suspicious instead of wasting time and effort on people who look as though they are traveling for a purpose such as on a business trip, family holiday, etc. They say they do random screening so as not to appear racist, and I ma not saying only screen Muslims. I am just saying that if a little old lady walks through security, I see no reason to stripsearch her for explosives.

  1. If you or anyone else believes airport security is too much, then don't travel by plane. If you need to go somewhere take a train, car, or bus. If you must take a plane, either don't go or don't bitch. They are doing this for a reason...to protect you and I from terrorism.
