A common question for someone to ask when getting to know another person is “What kind of music are you interested in?” My answer to this question is country; and the response is almost always the same: “Oh, I hate country.”
I don’t understand why people tend to think country music is “boring” or “all the same,” because it’s really not. Any country music fan will tell you that all country songs have an actual story to them; not just an offensive and vulgar shouting session about a one night stand, which seems to be the popular music nowadays.
I also don’t think that people who have a problem with country music understand that it is one of the most popular genres of our time. If it is such horrible music, then why would people like it so much?
I have heard people say that just because a song is by a country artist that they won’t listen to it, which I think is ridiculous. People should at least give it a chance!
I always keep my mind open to music, and I’ve discovered songs I love from a lot of different genres. If everyone would do the same, then people would have an appreciation for country music as well as all other genres.
I like to think of music genres as a professional sport; there are always good players on every team, but everyone always has a favorite team.
I’m not saying all of this because I want everyone to love country music and only country music. I’m saying this because I believe it is important for people to open up their minds about music in general because you never know when a song could affect you, no matter what genre it is.
People know what they like and there's little hope of changing that.
ReplyDeleteBut I am actually a fan of the twang of country music and definitely do not look like the bowlegged cowboy lovin' type. Along with the confused looks I receive when I answer the music question, I usually get a positive response. Though I understand why some people don't enjoy this genre; it's really just a matter of personal preference. You couldn't pay me enough to listen to a rap song, plain and simple. To me, they all sound the same and I find no appeal in them emotionally or musically. Though, I imagine that's how those who dislike country music feel about the country genre.
