The Backseat

“a secondary or inferior position or status”
A crazy schedule has always been a constant in a person’s life at one point or another. Whether it is work, school or both, there must be some give and take to make everything fit. Eventually, unknowingly or not, there is something that is thought of last or barely thought of at all. In the case of college life, there is a lot to consider. Most students work to get school materials or for traveling if they commute; others are blessed with a magical bank account otherwise known as ‘parents’. Let’s also mention that most students would like to have a life outside of school and not become a hermit. So, what aspect of this schedule is kicked into the backseat? You need friends, you need money…
Sure, everyone says that school comes first, but school does not entail just one thing, but many things. There are up to four or five classes in a student’s schedule, which is enough to get anyone up in nerves. Also, let’s not forget the many other things that school “advises” students to do, such as clubs or sports. But who has time for that with jobs outside of school and then school itself?
However, there is always a class hierarchy of sorts. One class prevails over the others; the one class that has the most to lose and therefore, gains most of the attention of the student. That’s right, one or even two classes inevitably are the passengers in the backseat. Every student has a tough class that they will concentrate on, and other classes will be left on the wayside.
No one is the blame for this phenomenon, it occurs naturally. There are many instances that a schedule becomes so overwhelming, that you need to be absent from one aspect of your life just to deal with another. So, watch the backseat with your peripherals and concentrate on the road because if you try to attempt everything at once- nothing will have a good result.
